The dirt on the dirt

What is the Dirt? Somewhere between a blog and an online magazine, The Dirt is my (Rosalind’s) word-baby, an illicit love-child of my academic, activist, spiritual and artistic explorations. It runs around with tangled hair and bare feet, and hasn’t really learnt social graces. It does tend to offend, but never on purpose.

The Dirt is an experiment in the pen as the sword; in the “power of speech / To stir men’s blood,” (as Shakespeare’s Marc Anthony dubiously claimed to be not doing, even as he incited a riot); in the possibilities for truth-telling in our post-modernist swirl of nihilism and irony. Most of the words are from my (Rosalind’s) heart-brain, with some contributions from others interested in speaking from this combo.

I made it because I like reading and writing things that try to be truthful, serious about joy, and not embarrassed to be sincere. I wanted to read and write more things that celebrate the human possibility of falling in love with everything.

I hope it will make you feel things in all parts of your body and incite all kinds of non-violent revolutions.

The Dirt is an illogical labour of love as it has no ads and makes no money. So if you like it, please donate some money to help me buy new socks and underwear here.

THANK YOU

PS If and when the internet / global economy goes down, the plan is to transition to handmade, letterpress-printed editions from a garage in rural Aotearoa New Zealand.
